This is where they were for a couple of days

They had been treated, so I think it was just an egg that had been left behind…. I put Xeno 50 on them and kept them in another cage with just kitchen roll for a couple of days. Then baked all the wooden toys, disposed of any that couple be replaced and desinfected the bin before adding brand new bedding. It should be good now, but will reapply the medication in a couple of weeks :)

The sand definitely helped, and clearly they prefer it, so sticking with it. Found a nice pot in IKEA, and the shape helps contain it.

So, found another lice on them so went full nuclear and changed everythin, speeding up the new cage plan. This is still their first day, and there’s still some upgrades to be done, but for now this is their new cage!

Yeah, I was already thinking about that. I did adapt the cage to make it more comfortable for them, but I realised rather quickly it’s not big enough. I figured they are ok at the moment while they are small, but am already looking into it :)

By the way, they seem to do everything in their toilet.… they take things there to chew, eat, when it’s sand they bathe in it…. As well as peeing and pooping. Is this normal, or are my gerbils weird? 🤔

I’ve tried a bunch of different toilets, none actually worked yet. Glass jars, ceramic bowls… I also noticed that they tend to bring the sand out with them when they step out of it as well… I’m trying to get a tunnel to connect the cage to the playpen… Any suggestions of connector tubes? The ramp is too open and I’m pretty sure Theo will see it as an invite to adventures. Vincent really isn’t keen on going out, so at most he will come to my hand and keep one paw in the cage. Which is fine. I’m trying to slowly build his confidence. Theo on the other hand is an adventurer and explorer. A little daredevil who will sometimes escape my hand with a sudden jump to freely run around the livingroom. Problem is the more times this happens, the more confident he gets that he doesn’t need me…. Took me 30 minutes yesterday to manage to get him back in his cage 😄

Hi Heather! Thanks for the tips. I got them one of those hamster toilets, which is see through but covered. Maybe I’ll get something more “hidden”. I was using sand, but it got everywhere even out of the cage. I’m Using Kaytee potty litter at the moment… if I can find a toilet that will contain the sand more, I’ll definetly switch back. the Top floor is a slate, but the bottom is all bedding. I also got them a couple of wood platforms fixed to the cage walls. I worry the cage is not big enough, but while they’re still pups it works. I got them a huge storage box (on the link you provided in one of your videos) and use it as a sort of playpen, but they always seem to prefer to stay in their cage - instant relax when I put them back!
